NWVBB enlists Phoenix Central Laboratory couriers

The Northwest Veterinary Blood Bank is working with Phoenix Central Laboratory to deliver blood products in Western Washington.

Phoenix's courier service visits most of the veterinary hospitals in the greater Seattle-Tacoma area, including Bellingham Veterinary where NWVBB is located. Recently we have teamed up with them to help pick up and deliver blood products to clinics in the region.

This partnership has proven to be a great success. Because Phoenix delivers twice a day to many veterinary hospitals in the region, the critically needed blood can be delivered faster then using a traditional mail service. Their expertise in the veterinary field has helped us get blood products to area clinics not only on time, but also properly cared for and refrigerated to meet exacting medical standards.

 

NWVBB teams up with the Whatcom Humane Society!

The NWVBB has teamed up with the Whatcom Humane Society to widen our pool of potential blood donors while helping dogs in need. Each week volunteers at the Humane Society draw blood samples from rescued or stray dogs, and send them to the NWVBB for typing. If one of the dogs is a universal donor, the NWVBB provides a complete blood test, as well as spay or neuter. This allows the WHS to use their veterinarian's time and effort on other animals that need help.

People who want to adopt these dogs are asked to bring in them in 6 times a year for blood donation. In addition to the services already performed while their new friend was staying with the WHS, the blood bank will continue to ensure their dog's continued health with routine exams, blood tests, and free vaccinations.

If you are interested in helping out one of these special dogs, please call the NWVBB at (360) 752-5554, or the Whatcom Humane Society at (360) 733-2080. Currently there are two universal donor dogs who had to be sent to a no-kill shelter in Skagit county because no one had adopted them, and they were to be euthanized at the Humane Society. We are actively seeking good homes for them.
